    Radnorshire Arms visit August 2025

    Radnorshire Arms Presteigne 2025

We finally got to Presteigne for a beer on Saturday 2nd August 2025 at the Radnorshire Hotel and stayed in their bar. This is a bar/hotel with lots of historical interest and well worth a visit for that alone. CAMRA members who got there were Chris ( Chairman), Myself (Dave Gill secretary), Dave D, Terry. Also we were joined by two former CAMRA members giving us a lookover. The staff were friendly and helpful. Terry checked the hotel web site which said "No dogs inside" In fact he brought his dog and there were three others in the bar.

The Radnorshire Arms had four cask beers which were all from the Wye Valley Brewery - 'HPA' - commonly available in Radnorshire, 'Pioneer' - probably a seasonal, Butty Bach - commonly available in Radnorshire and Shaka - which was a new one to most of us and worth checking out.

    Radnor Arms pumps May 2025

On 7th June 2025, we met at the newly re-opened Radnor Arms, New Radnor 'Community' buy out pub in New Radnor. The four beers are supplied by Hobsons brewery. They tasted fine. It is staffed by volunteers who are very friendly and helpful. The new bar was fairly big. There will be another bar in a room behind at a later date. The wood beams have been covered over and heating panels attached. They are having discussions about what floor covering to lay down in the front lounge area. The decoration is to a high standard and all looks clean with a mixture of traditional and modern. Light and airy colour scheme.

Leading up to the June 7th 3.00pm get together at the Radnor Inn, New Radnor. Some local members have already been along to check it out. It is a lovely little hamlet with lots of historical interest. The above view was from the site of the original Motte and Bailey Castle overlooking the village.

  • Radnor Sir Faesyfed visit to the New Inn, Newbridge on Wye Wednesday 7 May 2025

On Saturday 3rd May, 2025 Radnor some CAMRA members went to the New Inn at Newbridge on Wye. On arrival the pub was packed with wedding guests but they went off to church for the ceremony. The CAMRA members got an outside table in the sun - most enjoyable. The New Inn has just one hand pump which always has Felinfoel in it. Until now about three of us have avoided this brewery but we all agreed that the pub was serving up a well kept beer. Mark, a CAMRA member, turned up for the first time as he lives in the village.

  • March 1st, Dydd Dewi Sant members visit to Knighton Wednesday 12 March 2025

Members of the Radnorshire/Sir Faesyfed branch of CAMRA held their monthly 'meet up' on Saturday 1st March. These meetings are usually on the first Saturday of the month. The Horse & Jockey was the first place to sample their Wye Valley HPA and Butty Bach. The beer was in good condition, but the choice was limited. Then members went onto the chippy to take food into Watsons Micro pub. Here there was a choice of three beers, Whakahari a New Zealand ale from Purple Moose brewery; Spectre a Welsh Dry stout; and Ludlow Gold. All beers in good condition. Both venues had their merits. The Horse and Jockey has a traditional country pub vibe with exposed beams, brasses, log burner etc. While Watson's Ale House is more contemporary as it is a converted shop but does include a beer garden. Both venues were enjoyed by our group.
